The past two days have had some interesting experiences. Mom sent me some birthday money for me to buy some new shirts. She had also sent some money for Anna to get new shirts, since Anna's birthday is a week past mine. Anna and I went shopping about a week ago with the intent to find us each a couple new shirts.
What we found were lots of cute shirts for Anna and a lot of nothing for Mommy. I founds lots of stuff that I liked, but nothing that was decent on me. For some inexplicable reason, every shirt I tried on sucked right to me. (And I'm not talking on my belly where I've gained a little weight. I'm talking my entire torso. I know I've gained a little weight, but 2XL should NOT suck so tightly to me that I can see every rivet and seam underneath.) I came home from that shopping trip really disappointed.
Yesterday I got a chance to go shopping again. I'd gotten a few suggestions of other stores to try. I tried two with no luck. I drove to the mall with the intent of shopping at a certain store. I saw JC Penney... I felt VERY drawn to Penney's. This is unusual for me. I refuse to shop at that particular store in protest for having to pay fifty dollars for a shirt that would be ten dollars elsewhere. I couldn't figure out why I was being drawn there, as I figured I'd get one shirt instead of three or four...
In any case, that's where I went. I immediately saw a display with shirts I liked. They fit... I was shocked. (Turns out it was the material the other shirts were made out of making them stick to me- static. Go figure.) I looked at the tags, figuring I'd only be able to choose one. They were very cheap. I came out with three shirts. I felt very blessed that the Lord directed me to a place I could get the shirts I wanted. I know this particular incident it was not a matter of Celestial importance, but it was very important to me.
Today, Hostess went out of business. (What is the world coming to? No more Twinkies or Ding Dongs....) Scott stopped off at the store on the way home to get a couple things we needed, plus some snack cakes for one last time. Couldn't find Twinkies anywhere. (Who knew there'd be rushes on the stores and Twinkies would be the first thing to go?)
Anyone who knows Scott knows that Twinkies are his favorite. He was disappointed not to be able to get a box one last time. When he got home, I decided to run out and try a couple stores he hadn't tried. We didn't figure anyone would have any Twinkies left that late in the day, but it was worth a shot.
I stopped at a store I thought might have some. They didn't. On the way home, I saw a gas station coming up. I felt VERY drawn to try that gas station. They had three little two packs. Probably the last ones in town.
Again, I felt very blessed. This was definitely not a matter of Celestial importance, any more than my shirts were. But it was important to Scott, and we were directed to the place to go.
God loves each of us. Even if things aren't important in the scheme of things, the Lord will often bless us with the little things we want. We just have to be listening to His directions.
